\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/i><\/b>\u00a0It was Sarah\u2019s ninth birthday. She could hardly wait for the day to come, because\u00a0 she just\u00a0 KNEW what she was getting for her present from Mum and Dad. It was something that she had wanted for ever so long\u2026. a\u00a0 pair of boot roller skates. The only\u00a0 thing she didn\u2019t know about them was the colour they would be.<\/p>\n
At last, the morning\u00a0 dawned, and sure enough there was the parcel waiting to be opened. There were other parcels there too, but this was the one she had been waiting for! She couldn\u2019t get the paper off quickly enough, and there they were! Just what she had been wanting for so\u00a0 long!\u00a0\u00a0 Gleaming white boots, with the rollers underneath!<\/p>\n
Sarah quickly put them on her feet, only to be told, \u201cNot inside please!\u201d She went outside on the concrete path, and started to skate carefully along. Her two brothers followed her.<\/p>\n
\u201cAw, give us a turn Sarah\u201d, they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, your feet are too big, and you\u2019ll stretch them!\u201d she said to Tom, the eldest one.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, what about me?\u201d asked Jack. Sarah pretended not to hear. Her little sister was looking longingly at them too, but she knew it was no use even asking\u2026. her feet were far too small!<\/p>\n
\u201cBreakfast\u2019s ready\u201d their mother called, so Sarah took them off reluctantly. She hugged them tightly on her lap as she sat down at the table.\u00a0After breakfast was over, she went outside again, and when she wasn\u2019t\u00a0skating, she sat down on the steps hanging onto her skates in case one of\u00a0the others picked them up and tried them while she wasn\u2019t\u00a0 looking.<\/p>\n
The boys never gave up asking. \u201cCome on Sarah\u201d, they said, \u201cCan\u2019t we\u00a0have a turn?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, you can\u2019t\u201d, she cried stamping her foot, \u201cLeave me alone!\u201d<\/p>\n
By the end of the day, Sarah was tired out with hanging onto her skates\u00a0every minute of the day. She sat glumly at the tea table, looking most miserable.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think this has been the horriblest day of my life\u201d, she sighed. \u201cEveryone\u2019s been so nasty and grumpy with me!!\u201d<\/p>\n
Her father looked at her kindly. \u201cDon\u2019t you think it would have been much nicer for you to have shared your skates with everyone, even if they\u00a0didn’t fit properly? The boys would have soon got\u00a0 tired of following you\u00a0around and pestering you then\u201d.<\/p>\n
Sarah sighed again. \u201cMaybe\u201d, she said as she left the table and went off to put her skates out of sight under her bed.<\/p>\n
Her father shook his head.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet this be a lesson to the rest of you\u201d, he said, \u201cEven if you\u00a0 want to play\u00a0 with your things all day, it\u2019s much better to be generous and share them with\u00a0 the others!\u201d<\/p>\n
