\u00a0\u00a0\"LILY\"<\/a> <\/span>It was Easter Sunday at lunch time, and all the family were gathered around the dinner table. Mum had made everyone\u2019s favourite meal of roast lamb with peas, potatoes and carrots, and they were sitting around talking, letting the first course settle down before the pudding came.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Uncle Jeff was there too as he often was, and he said, \u201cWell Bobby, what did the preacher tell us about in church this morning?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI know,\u201d said Betty without waiting to see what Bobby said, \u201cIt was about Jesus dying on the cross.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cVery good, it was too,\u201d said Uncle Jeff, \u201cWhat else can you remember?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe used some big words all starting with the letter \u2018v\u2019 \u201d Bobby said, \u201cOne word was violent, and he said that meant that Jesus had some horrid things done to Him before He was put on the cross.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s right\u201d, Uncle Jeff said, \u201cWhat were some of those violent things that were done to Him?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe was whipped\u201d, Bobby said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a crown of thorns with long spikes on it jammed onto His head\u201d, said Sarah, \u201cand the blood all ran down His face.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, that\u2019s right. What was another \u2018v\u2019 word then?\u201d asked Uncle Jeff.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe said it was a vicious death\u201d, said Sarah, \u201cand that means that they were really trying to hurt Him a lot.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey hated Him,\u201d piped up Betty.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey did too\u201d, said Dad who was listening to all this, \u201cThey were really vindictive the way they treated Him. That means that they were trying to be as mean to Him as they could be because they hadn\u2019t liked what He was saying about being God\u2019s special Sent One.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJust like Emma was mean to me,\u201d Betty said, \u201cwhen she hit me the other day for nothing!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat was another \u2018v\u2019 word?\u201d Uncle Jeff asked, \u201cThose are three \u2018v\u2019 words about how the people were treating the Lord Jesus. What was another word that shows us how He felt?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There was silence for a moment while everyone stopped to think.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI know,\u201d said Sarah, \u201cIt was voluntary. That means that He did it because He wanted to help people.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOooh,\u201d said Betty, \u201cHow could Him being hurt so badly help people?\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was something to do with Him paying for our sins wasn\u2019t it?\u201d asked Sarah.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d said Uncle Jeff, \u201cThat was part of it. He did it because He wanted to, no-one was making Him do it.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI remember another word,\u201d Bobby said, \u201cHe said it was valid for today. What exactly does that mean?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat means that what He did all those years ago on the cross still counts for today,\u201d Uncle Jeff said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI remember another one,\u201d Betty said, \u201cHe said it was val\u2026valable. What does that mean?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou mean valuable,\u201d Sarah said, \u201cThat means that it was worth a lot then and even<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>for us today.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, that\u2019s right\u201d, said Dad, \u201cWe wouldn\u2019t be able to pray to God at all if Jesus hadn\u2019t died on the cross for us.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so glad He did,\u201d said Betty with a sigh, \u201cI like praying to God when things go wrong. It just seems to make things better straight away.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, are you all ready for your pudding?\u201d Mum called out from the kitchen, \u201cSarah, come and help carry it in! I\u2019m so glad you were all listening so well to the sermon this morning! The main thing now is to remember it!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
