Uncle Jeff came into the room where Sarah was curled up on the couch doing what she liked best\u2026.reading a book.<\/p>\n

She uncurled herself, and said, \u201cWhere have you come from just now Uncle Jeff?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been helping out at a working bee at the church\u201d he said, \u201cthe place needed a good wash down and there were some other odd jobs that needed doing around the place\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bobby came rushing in to the room bouncing a ball as he came. \u201cOh hullo Uncle Jeff\u201d, he said stopping the bouncing. \u201cDo you have any stories to tell us today?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy word, you DO like your stories don\u2019t you?\u201d\u00a0 Uncle Jeff said as he sat down in the easy chair. \u201cWell, as a matter of fact, I don\u2019t have any stories off the top of my head, but I have been thinking about a good way to read the Bible stories for yourself now you are getting older. DO you read it at all Bobby?\u201d he asked looking sharply a him.<\/p>\n

Bobby looked a bit ashamed of himself. \u201cAw, no, not really\u201d, he said, \u201cIt\u2019s so hard to find where the stories are, and then I forget where I\u2019m up to so I don\u2019t bother\u2026.much\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh come now,\u201d said Uncle Jeff, \u201cIt\u2019s not that bad. What about you Sarah?\u201d looking across at her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I know I ought to\u201d, Sarah said, \u201cand honestly I DO try. But like Bobby said, I make a start and then I get too busy or too tired, and don\u2019t carry on with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell\u201d, said Uncle Jeff, \u201cI\u2019m sure you would never be too busy or too tired to eat your tea each night. That feeds your body and gives you energy, and reading the Bible is what feeds your soul, and helps you do the right things.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll tell you a good way to do it so you won\u2019t forget where you are up to\u2026.but you have to make up you mind to do it every night before you go to sleep. Or if you are a morning person, and wake up feeling great, do it then before you get up. But you need a couple of things to help you. Get an exercise book and pencil, and decide where you are going to read.<\/p>\n

\u201c There are lots of places where there are very exciting stories. In fact, a good place to start would be right at the very beginning in the book of Genesis as this explains how everything began in the first place. There is no need to read a whole lot at once. Maybe just ten verses or a few more if it looks interesting.<\/p>\n

Then follow the ABC method of making notes\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean by that Uncle Jeff?\u201d Sarah asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite simple really,\u201d said Uncle Jeff, \u201c \u2018A\u2019 stands for A Good Title. So you think of a good name for the part you are reading and write that down.<\/p>\n

Then \u2018B\u2019 stands for Best Verse. You look for the verse you like the best and write that down, or just the number of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes\u00a0 \u2018C\u2019 come next Uncle Jeff\u201d Sarah asked, \u201cwhat does that stand for?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, \u2018C\u2019 stands for Challenge. Find something there that makes you stop and think that maybe you didn\u2019t know that before or perhaps you should be doing that. Or maybe it is something that the person in the story should have done instead of what they did do!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSounds like a lot of work\u201d,\u00a0 Bobby said dubiously. He didn\u2019t like writing much.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I suppose it is a bit of work, but it is worth it in the long run\u201d, said Uncle Jeff, \u201cAnd you won\u2019t forget where you get up to or what you\u2019ve read about!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat sounds like a good idea\u201d, said Sarah, \u201cI\u2019ll go and see if I can find a spare exercise book right now!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s alright for you Sarah,\u201d\u00a0 Bobby said a bit grumbly, \u201cyou like writing!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, perhaps we could do it together then\u201d Sarah said, \u201cYou do the reading out loud and we\u2019ll ask each other the questions and I\u2019ll do the writing!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat sounds like a jolly good idea\u201d said Uncle Jeff, \u201c and now how about putting the kettle on. I\u2019m feeling thirsty!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWas there a \u2018D\u2019 Uncle Jeff?\u201d Sarah asked as she got up.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, if you really wanted to find one, you could look for a \u2018Difficulty\u2019\u2026.. something that you find hard to understand or something that the person in the story found hard to do. I\u2019m sure it won\u2019t be hard to find one of those!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo\u201d, said Bobby, \u201cAll that writing is my big difficulty!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh come on Bobby, Sarah will do the hard bits. I\u2019ll look forwards to hearing how you are getting on the next time I come round!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
