\"\"<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bobby and Sarah were riding home from church with Uncle Jeff one Sunday after the morning church service,\u00a0 as he was coming to their place for lunch.\u00a0 Both of the young people were more silent than usual, and in the end Uncle Jeff said, \u201cIs something bothering you Bobby?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, not exactly,\u201d Bobby said, \u201cBut I\u2019d like to know a few things\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike what?\u201d Uncle Jeff asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell,\u201d said Bobby slowly, \u201cWhat I\u2019d like to know is about this bread and wine stuff they have during the service\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you know about it Sarah?\u201d Uncle Jeff asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I know it comes from the Bible, it\u2019s not just a thing that people have made up to look good\u201d, she replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess it must mean something,\u201d Bobby said, \u201cBut I\u2019ve never heard anyone really explain it\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps you weren\u2019t really listening\u201d, Uncle Jeff said, \u201cHaven\u2019t you noticed what sort of prayers are said just before the bread is given out? What about you Sarah?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s usually a thank-you prayer\u201d, she said, \u201cThanking the Lord Jesus for dying on the cross for our sins.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s right,\u201d said Uncle Jeff, \u201cBut there is a lot more to it all than just that. How do you think the bread is made?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s made out of flour\u201d, Bobby said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd how does flour get to be made?\u201d Uncle Jeff asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it gets ground up out of the grains of wheat or whatever other grain is used\u201d, Sarah said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the wheat grains had feelings, do you think it would have been hurt in the grinding process?\u201d Uncle Jeff went on to say.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh,\u201d said Sarah slowly, \u201cSo you are saying that the bread is like the Lord Jesus being hurt so badly when He died on the cross\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s right, Sarah, \u201d said Uncle Jeff, \u201cWhat is the next process in making bread?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gets mixed up with other things and then it\u2019s baked in the oven,\u201d Bobby said, \u201cI DO like new bread!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you think the meaning of that is as far as the Lord Jesus was concerned?\u201d Uncle Jeff asked getting back to the point.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing in the oven is very hot\u201d, Sarah said, \u201cI guess it was like that for Him when God turned away from Him when he took our sins on Himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, that is quite true,\u201d Uncle Jeff continued, \u201d and what\u2019s more what is the bread like when it comes out of the oven?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYum, yum,\u201d said Bobby, \u201cI LIKE new bread!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you know that the Lord Jesus could say that He was the bread of life? That was all because He died to save us from our sins! \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that is what it is all about?\u201d Sarah said, \u201cThanks so much for explaining that. What about the wine then? Is that something the same? \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, the picture is the same\u201d, Uncle Jeff said, \u201c The grapes have to be crushed first to get the juice out of them, and then there is a further process the juice goes through before it will keep. How do you think this is a picture of the Lord Jesus?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe lost a lot of His blood while He was on the cross\u201d, Sarah said thoughtfully, \u201cAlmost as though it was crushed out of Him!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, and some people drink wine to make them feel happy, and when they have something to celebrate; another thing about wine is that it is a healer if you put it on sores, and then it stops you feeling thirsty as well,\u201d Uncle Jeff said, \u201cAnd what\u2019s more it lasts without going rotten. The Lord Jesus does all these things for people when they trust Him…that’s why it is a picture of Him.\u00a0 Does all this make sense to you Bobby?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYe-e-es, I guess so\u201d, Bobby said. \u201cSo it\u2019s all a picture of what\u00a0 Jesus has done for us. It won\u2019t seem so boring now in church, now that I know what it all means. But why is it only big young people who take it and grown ups? Why can\u2019t I do it?\u201d<\/p>\n

Uncle Jeff had been expecting this question, and he said, \u201cI know that a lot of young children have given their hearts to Jesus, and they would love to do this, but you know people do change their minds as time goes by. Remember the time when you thought you would like to milk cows when you grew up?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes\u201d, said Sarah nudging Bobby, \u201cAnd remember how you used to say you were going to marry Jenny when you grew up?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYuk!\u201d, said Bobby, \u201cI\u2019ve changed my mind, that\u2019s all!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you see we have to make sure that you are grown up enough to understand what it is all about and you want to do it to please the Lord Jesus Himself, not just because Jack in the next seat takes it!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh!\u201d said Bobby, \u201cWell, I don\u2019t think I\u2019m going to change my mind about this, but I only\u00a0 want to do it to please God and because it says so in the Bible!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s great!\u201d said Uncle Jeff as he turned in to their driveway, \u201cWell, I don\u2019t know about you, but I\u2019m feeling hungry. Let\u2019s go inside and see what Mum has ready for us for lunch!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
