Noah’s Obedience Rewarded.

Noah had prepared the ark and provisioned it with enough food for every creature on board just as God had told him to. What a sight it must have been to see all the animals loaded on board!

Seven pairs of clean (eatable) animals, and all birds, with one pair of all other animals and all the creepy crawlies too! Finally Noah and his family (eight people) went in and God shut the door of the ark. There wouldn’t have been any handle on the outside. Then it began to rain….imagine the panic of the people on the outside as they saw the waters begin to rise. They would remember then all the times that Noah had warned them this would happen! The tide too kept on rising and people could now see that Noah’s prediction was right after all, but it was too late! It was no use banging on the door to be let in….God had shut it and there was no outside handle.

The water kept rising until the highest mountain was covered by fifteen cubits (seven metres ). All moving life died and the earth was cleansed of all the filth and evil that man had brought on it. The water covered the earth for just over five months before it began to recede.

This is a real lesson to us as we read this account….God’s invitation has an end. Just as the people in Noah’s time found that they couldn’t go into the ark when they wanted to, so people today will find that if they put off accepting God’s invitation to come NOW, the time may come when they won’t be able to come. Just like the man who kept putting off the chance he had to turn to Jesus, but kept resisting it. One day he dreamed that he could see God in heaven, and a big blind came down between them blotting out the sight. He said that he knew then that he wouldn’t be able to come even if he wanted to….it was too late! We must make sure that we don’t pass this point of no return!

Man’s sin brought judgment on the earth, Such as never  seen since its birth,

The earth was cleansed all through and through, So then it could start fresh and new.

Beware of the Temptation in Your Pocket!

Do you have an idol? You might ask whatever I’m talking about! An idol? Of course not. The very idea is ridiculous!!!    But do you know what God classes as an idol? An idol is anything that you can’t possibly do without. Anything that you raise up in the place that God  wants from you. Something that, at least for a moment, takes first place in your heart.

How do you feel if you find you have left your phone behind when you go out? Does something seem to be missing? Is there a feeling of panic?    What exactly do you use your smart phone for anyway? Do you use it merely for messages or talking on the phone? Or do you sneak looks at some of the things on line that you wouldn’t like your mother see you doing?     Whatever your idol is, will prove to be a special kind of temptation for you when you use your phone. If you idolize sexual pleasure, you will probably be tempted to use your phone to look at pornography. Did you know that more than half of all pornography is now viewed on mobile devices like yours? This means that many people like you bought a smart phone so they could text with their friends and take pictures of their vacation, but somehow they ended up using it to look at pornography or other dubious sites. They used this great, God-given technology to do harm instead of good.

Or perhaps this isn’t your problem, but you like to pass on juicy bits of news with unkind innuendos of the ones you are texting about! If you find yourself being tempted in this way, ask God to give you the strength to resist looking at doubtful sites, and sending those texts. Right now. If that doesn’t work, go back to the ordinary small phone that only does talking and texting until the temptation is out of your system. Remember that verse that says And now, little children, abide in Him (Jesus); that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming  (1 John 2:28).

Fear Not!

Have you ever noticed how many times God says to people, “Fear not! Don’t be afraid!” In these days of the unknown future, fear has taken hold of many people. That is why the panic buying was going on in the supermarkets lately….something that was world wide and not just confined to our small corner. The speed with which the corona virus has spread to all corners of the world is unprecedented. Life as we have known it may never come back again. For many people their livelihood has gone, and their very homes are on shaky ground. Only time will tell how well the world can weather this storm.

Yet there is some good that has come out of it. Families have found each other again. We have found that simple things like walking around our neighbourhood is still there and what is more, it is free for the taking! Fathers have time to play around in the kitchen with their children and mothers have the time to take up handcrafts again.

All the crazy running around takes so much of our time and energy, and the small things at home tend to be pushed to one side until “there is more time!” That time is now there to be found and used constructively. Not just in doing chores around the house, but taking time to listen to one another, and to rediscover the things about each other that once attracted us but have somehow got lost in the high pressures of our modern life style.

So for those who know their God, take some of this time that has been given to you to spend with Him, because who knows what lies ahead. And for those who have never found Him yet, take this time to think these things through and to find this One Whose love is beyond measure. His promise still stands of “Those who seek Me shall find Me.” Then nothing of what happens around us will be able make us afraid as He is our Strong Tower that we can run into and be safe.
